I am in the process of transferring from DLA to PIP. I will be receiving an assistance dog, (a dog to help with tasks relating to my disability, he will do specific tasks such as opening doors, picking up things and helping with dressing etc,) in the next 3 weeks, just before I return the PIP form. Do I mention the dog on the PIP form? Could I be penalised if my dog is assisting me in some aspects of care instead of my carer? Thank you for your help in this matter.
PIP awards are supposed to be based on the last three months and next none months so I think you need to mention it on the form, however, you cannot comment at this time on the benefits that you receive from this assistance dog until you actually receive it.
You mention you have a carer so I assume that they currently do some or all of the things that the dog will do. Remember it not about the assistance you get but rather the assistance that you need.
