Hospital admissions and pip benefit. was created by Lydia1960
Spent over a month on a psychiatric ward this year, but didn’t know I had to contact the benefit team about this.

If I need to pay back PIP benefit for this period would I be allowed to pay it back in stages? Will ESA be affected too?

Any period over 28 has to be notified to the DWP as your DLA is suspended after this period, the days you were admitted and discharged are not part of the 28 days.

You may be able to argue that you were not in a position to notify the DWP and that therefore any overpayment should not be recovered but you do need to notify them immediately, if it is recoverable then they will reduce your existing benefits.
