Appointee was created by ejay1001
I am my son's Appointee. He has Autism and other related conditions, he has a face to face coming up and I am very concerned about the long term effects it will have on him hearing about his condition and how it effects him while he is sitting there. I have a lot of things in place at home to help with his condition that he is unaware of and thinks are "Normal" and to hear his shortcomings being discussed with a stranger is going to be very damaging to his mental health. My questions are
As his appointee can i insist the questions are directed at me and not my son?
Can he wait in the waiting room while the interview takes place?
Can i take a copy of the questions i filled in on his pip form in with me to refer to ?
Can i take notes while the interview takes place?
and finally Can I ask to see what the HCP has written before i leave?
Many Thanks

Slightly out of order.
I think you will struggle to keep your son out of the assessment room, the assessor is going to want to see him to at least get a basic understanding of his problems from observing, it may be possible for him to then leave the room but you will have to discuss this on the day. It may be worth asking if you could have a word with the assessor before they start the interview.
The assessor may try and address their questions to your son but the DWP guidance does make it clear that they should respect the input of the appointee but you cannot insist that they only speak to you. Again, discussion with the assessor before the interview may help.
Yes, you can take notes to the assessment, just make sure that you explain why you are referring to them if you do.
You are entitled to take notes during the interview.
You can ask to see the notes made by the assessor, they should allow access but be aware the bulk of the report is written once the claimant has left so it may not reveal much.

Thank you Gordon that is very helpful, I did not think to ask to have a word before the interview starts.

Speak to the receptionist when you arrive.
