DLA to PIP transition was created by Mitz78
Hi All
Just looking for some advice regarding the whole DLA to PIP process, I've been in receipt of DLA for almost 15 yrs and I currently get low rate care and high rate mobility, now my health has declined a lot since I was granted that award so much so that I had to give up work last year and am now getting ESA for which I am in the support group, I have not yet received my letter regarding the requirement to now apply for PIP, so my query is do I continue to sit and wait for my letter or do I call them and advise there has been a change in my health and request the PIP form, the reason I have not already done this is because I'm concerned about all the DLA claimants that have had their benefit taken away completely and had to go through the ordeal of a very lengthy appeal process to get their award reinstated, I really could not afford to lose my benefit and could really do with an increase to help pay for my carer's, really torn as to what to do, I know I have to apply eventually but do I wait or not? Please help! Thanks in advance ☺️

I can't tell you that you do not need to inform the DWP if your conditions have deteriorated but they are not usually bothered if a claimant does not.
PIP has very different criteria from DLA and the awards are different as well, for example; there is no "lower" rate of care (Daily Living), so the first thing you should look at is whether you meet that criteria or not and whether an award can be made or not. See our PIP Claim guide on the following link.
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip
If you reasonably believe that you would receive a similar award under PIP or a higher one then you should consider notifying the DWP.

Thank you Gordon, I will read the guide and seek advice from my GP and nurse at the hospital, hopefully they and your guide will help me make the right decision. Thanks again
