Local politics and ESA PIP benefits was created by bluebell4
Having ended up with PTSD after my PIP experience and for a long time been interested in health, local politics, and being an ex-nurse and researcher i have realised the only way to have a voice is to stand as an independent in the local elections. I have started the process because I am so concerned what is happening to people in my local area. HOWEVER. I am in the support group for ESA, and through the courts got standard care but no mobility despite being on high mobility low care on DLA. i am going through reassessment for both and am concerned that they will stop all my benefits saying, if you can do that then you can work. The cost on my physical and psychological health is immense from just the prep I have done so far. However as i know my illness will never improve, ive tried everything I have taken the view that having a voice is the only way forward. Are there any other disabled candidates on here who have a hidden disability who have retained their benefits and been in local councils? Thanks

The primary issue is whether any of the activities that you would have to perform as a councillor contradict the reasons that you have received your ESA and PIP awards. Think about this carefully because if they do then it can impact on your reassessment and even if it does not you will need to explain in detail why this is the case.

I can't find any specific guidance on this situation, my guess is that it will either be treated as Voluntary Work or possibly Permitted Work, in either case, you need to contact the ESA office dealing with your claim, there's no specific requirement for you to contact the PIP office but if you don't and the DWP consider there has been a Change in your limitations then it could count against you if you do not.
