Getting ready for F2F was created by riget
So they have my pip claim form and to be honest I think I made a bit of a mess with it but ho well.
So I want to be ready when I go even though I could also make a mess of that,
first thing is does the activity "preparing food" actually mean that or does it just mean to do the actions in the activity? It seems to be that they want to know if you can use your hands, as they discount any form of bending, carrying and moving, I did see on here somewhere that legally to prepare food you have to carry it?
Thanks.

Hi Riget
The best preparation you can do for a face to face assessment is to go back through the guide and read what it says about each of the questions and also look at the questions you could be asked at assessment.
“Prepare”, in the context of food, means make food ready for cooking or eating.
This obviously includes things like washing, peeling and chopping and can also include things like
opening tins and packets and weighing and measuring ingredients.
“Cook” means heat food at or above waist height.
“Simple meal” means a cooked one-course meal for one using fresh ingredients.
The law talks about 'using fresh ingredients'. So, if all you can manage is to heat ready-meals in a
microwave oven, you should score points. Even if you microwave your food, you will still score
points if you cannot cut up and prepare fresh meat and vegetables before cooking them in the
microwave.
Guidance to health professionals tells them that “Carrying items around the kitchen is not
included in this activity.”
However, this is guidance only and we consider that it is incorrect. The legal definition states that “Prepare”, in the context of food, means make food ready for cooking or eating. This might well include carrying food from a worktop to the sink to wash it, to the cooker to cook it and then to another surface to serve it. If you have problems with any of these activities, give details and, if you are not happy with the decision, consider challenging it.

Thanks Bis,
This activity looks to be for the ability to use your hands that I can do no problem, I'll study the questions and explain my problem is being able to carry a pan without moving my lower body.
So on to the next activity and I can't find an answer.
Eating and drinking, the activity includes being able to chew and swallow but I can not see a descriptor that gives points in my instance, I have achalasia this makes swallowing difficult for me, the main area I can see for getting points would be for speed, I have to chew well and eat small amounts at a time and wash food down with liquid, I know I take more than twice as long to eat a meal than other people so if speed counts on this activity then I should score points, but I see no descriptor that covers my problem.
Thanks.

Hi Riget
I'm not an assessor but I think it is unlikely to score for the speed of which you eat. You could choose not to tick the boxes yes, no or sometimes and write beside them see below. Then put in an explanation of the difficulties you have, and the dangers there might be associated with a defective swallowing action. If you do choke at all then you need to include examples and how often.

I thought the safely, acceptable standard, repeatedly and reasonable speed applied to all activities, I'll have to concentrate on how to eat out of the frying pan while standing on one leg.

Hi Riget
I think it will depend on your assessor. I too have a defective swallowing action and I can't say it concerned them despite the fact that I choke multiple times a day. You could have a different experience.
