Short notice phone call was created by James
I received a letter from Capita this morning saying that an Assessor was looking at my PIP application (DLA to PIP) It said that if I needed a face to face assessment they would contact me.
This afternoon, my mobile rang showing a private number. I don't usually answer these type of calls, but this time I did. It was a lady from Capita saying she was looking at short notice assessments. I asked her where it was and she told me the address in Nottingham. I asked her about stairs, and she said there were steps outside, but also a ramp if I used a wheelchair. I explained that I don't use on but I do use 2 walking sticks.
She explained that there was no parking and it was a bit of a walk from the nearest car park. I said that I was unable to walk very far due to my health conditions.
She asked me if I had asked for a home visit, but I told her that there was nowhere on the form to ask for that. She then said that maybe a home visit would be better, but I wauld need to get a letter from my GP. She then said that she could'nt help me any further and that I should wait for a letter from them.
I'm not sure what to do about all this. I have looked on the map and the nearest car park is quite a distance from the centre. I don't know if GP's do letters regarding PIP. And I'm not sure if this phone call will be classed as me refusing an appointment.
Could anyone give me some advice on what to do.

Hi James
If you think you would be better with a home visit and your GP is willing to write one, then you can do this now. All the GP has to do is confirm that a visit to an assessment centre would cause you undue physical pain and stress. Some are willing to do this - some are not.
As this was a short notice appointment it should not be counted as you turning the first appointment down, but you can always write to both Capita and the DWP confirming the phonecall and what was said and emphasising that you are still waiting for your !st appointment.
That way you have a written record of it should it be an issue later.

Thanks BIS, I'll make an appointment next week with my GP. If I get a letter, do I send it in to Capita or wait until I get my appointment?

Hi James
Send a copy to Capita and the DWP. And for future reference, if you're in the same position again, it's on question 15 where they say 'additional information' that you can put in a request for a home visit, or just attach a separate page with the request. Home visits are rarely granted without a backup letter.

Hi. I've just been given a letter from my GP explaining the difficulty I would have if I had to go to the Capita Assessment centre, and that I would be better with a home assessment.
Should I wait until they send me an appointment and then phone them about the letter? or should I send the letter to them now?
I'm not sure if I should put a letter from me in with a copy of the GP's letter. And if so, what do I say on the letter?
