my 82 year old ex-hubby wants to remarry me was created by Clarity
he and I have been living platonicly for nearly 6 years. We have our own bedrooms and bathrooms and he has been taking care of me - cooking, dealing with my bipolar 1 with psychotic features and helps me with my medications and mobility issues. I, in turn check his blood pressure regularly as he has Atrial fibrillations and note down his readings according to his varying weariness. He is worried that should something happen to him I would be almost penniless, I am 62.
I am in the ESA Support group and at the moment have standard care and mobility - I can only walk 40mtr with crutches and cannot access busses. My standard mobility rate only covers two round journeys a week to the doctor and care coordinator.
The big question: what will happen to my benefits if we remarry, and should he predecease me what benefits are available?

Are you treated as a couple at the moment by the DWP, you don't need to be married for this to happen?
If you are not and you are receiving Income Related ESA in part or in whole then marrying will mean that you are treated as a couple, any ESA(IR) you receive will increase but your then husband's income (pension) and savings will be taken into account, reducing your ESA(IR).
If you are only receiving Contribution Based ESA then it will not be affected.
Your DLA or PIP will not be affected.
You can get a better idea of what you might receive by putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators, see the following

Thank you Gordon you have been very helpful. One question I have is that if we did remarry would I lose benefit if he predeceases me.
Thank you

Benefits in your name will not be affected, joint benefits should be able to be continued but may require you to take them over, benefits in his name will stop but you may be able to make a new claim in your name depending on the benefit.
