Pip home assessment nightmare was created by Becky
Hi forum members. I would appreciate some guidance regarding my recent home assessment for PIP. I am moving from DLA to PIP so have completed my forms using your guides. I was sent an appointment for a home assessment, I didn't request a home assessment.
Back story, I have MS which has damaged my vision and blinded one eye and left me with blind spots in the other eye. These are permanent. I also have weakness down my right side and my right leg drags as the signals from my brain are significantly delayed due to ms damage. I also have Osteoarthritis in my right knee which causes significant pain. I wear an eye patch every waking hour of the day apart from showering and sleep to reduce the visual distortion my blind eye causes. Without the patch I suffer disorientation, dizziness and nausea and basically struggle to function.
Anyway to my assessment day....the nurse was brutal in her questioning. She fired them at me and I answered as best I could. She refused to look at my home aides or any part of my home which would have demonstrated to her my needs. When I get fatigued I stutter due to the ms and my muscles twitch very noticably down my right side. I quickly got fatigued and stuttered and because of this my answers did not come out as I wished, yet she kept pushing and pushing....I was quite distressed at this point, my daughter was comforting me and trying to answer for me also.
I feel so let down by this 'nurse'. She told me she was only doing the job to top up her pension. She bombarded me with suggestions of how I should answer her. Refused to add a note to my assessment that I have been found unfit for work and have limited capability for work. I'm now feeling quite angry about her behaviour and wondering if I should take it further. I feel she deliberately set out to make the assessment impossible to comprehend. I am not a stupid person but I have ms and I struggle with cognitive issues.
I feel certain I will lose my PIP claim and have to take it to tribunal because she set out to make that happen.
So sorry for venting but feeling let down and considering what steps to take against this awful woman.

Hi Becky
I am sorry you had such a distressing experience.
You could phone the DWP and ask for a copy of your assessment report now. It will take 5 - 10 days to arrive.
You can also put in a complaint to the assessment provider about the behaviour of the nurse if you wish.

Hi Becky
They should be loaded up on the system within 48 hours. I would ring early next week and request it.

"She bombarded me with suggestions of how I should answer her."
Isn't that against the rules? "Leading" someone, or something? You're supposed to put it in your own words, surely?
