My son is in the ESA support group. He recently started doing 2 hours of voluntary work a week at a local charity. I informed the DWP and they have now sent me Form VOLWORK1JP to complete. It asks questions like why is he not paid, how will this help him find paid work, etc. To carry out his voluntary work, my son needs constant support. I am now worried that DWP will start putting pressure on him to find paid work, something my son could not manage.
You cannot take back what you have already told them so you need to put in a clear explanation - about the amount of support he needs and receives and that this is not going to lead to paid work because it's something he's not capable of. Would someone from the Charity be willing to write you a supporting letter? It doesn't have to be much, just confirming what he's doing and the support he needs while he's there. If you think it could make the situation worse don't ask them for one.
