Hello, I’d be grateful for some advice. I posted my completed CRMR1 on Sept 4th, !st class, signed for post to Wolverhampton, my deadline was Sept 7th so I expected that it would be delivered in time as I’ve not had problems with this service before. I then went away for a much needed holiday. I came back 3 days ago and checked the tracking only to find that my envelope had not been delivered until Sept. 10th; I do have the receipt.
Realising that my form and evidence was now late I phoned yesterday and was told that they had received my form but the MR couldn’t begin because I hadn’t previously informed them either by phone or letter that I was going to ask for this. I was eventually told that I could begin the process if I wished so I said ‘Yes’, but they wouldn’t backdate it. Would it be best if I send a covering letter and a copy of the postal receipt, is there anything else I can do? I was on DLA before, lifetime award, lower rate for care and upper rate for mobility and it's looking like I will lose my Motability car.

What you have been told is rubbish, there is absolutely no requirement for a claimant to notify the DWP in advance that they are requesting an MR in writing, the letter/form is the notification.
If they are accepting the letter then you do not need to take any additional action but if you are still concerned then send a copy of the postal receipt with a covering letter to show that the request should have been received within the normal one month period.
