Agoraphobia, paper based review for PIP?

Hello. My PIP renewal form came in yesterday, the 3rd one I've had since the start of my claim. Both my prior claims had me attend a F2F, for which I needed to request a home visit, since it's near impossible for me to leave my house.

I'm also diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and anxiety, making interacting with people extremely distressing and leaving me a mess days and weeks after the fact.

I know it's stressed that pertinent and recent supporting medical evidence may help ease the reviewing process, but I've not been able to see my GP or anyone for that matter in 10 years. The only recent document I have is a letter from my GP stating my condition, the fact that I do not attend surgery and that there is no way I can go to the F2F appointment miles from my home. This was dated 2015, so i'm unsure if it will be accepted or hold any weight in the review.

Is there any hope in holding out for a paper based review? I only ask because the last two F2F appointments left me in such shambles in the aftermath. It really affecting my ability to eat and sleep, I just kept going over and over it in my mind. Some of the worst anxiety attacks I've had.

Thank you-

Hi Pup

Whether they will give you a paper-based review, I cannot say. The 2015 letter is usable, though if you rang your doctors and could ask for an up to date one with identical information it would carry more weight. It would be nice if their letter actually said you need a paper-based review because of the overwhelming psychological distress a f2f would cause you.

If you don't feel able to get a more up to date letter or they won't give you one, emphasise yourself that your condition is exactly the same or has deteriorated since the 2015 letter and as you are unable to attend your doctor's surgery to manage your condition it is impossible for you to go to an assessment centre or have a stranger in your home. Put all this on a separate piece of paper and where they ask for any further information put it in capital letters that you are asking for a paper-based review.

Your other option and I have done this for someone with the same condition as yourself is to ring the DWP and explain the situation and how a f2f would be detrimental to your health. It may be worth a go if you are able to or ask someone else to do it for you (if you have anyone).

I have similar health conditions. I called the doc and they printed off my medical records and wrote a letter asking for a paper based assessment. Capita phoned and said they needed to see me and arranged a home visit. I got very upset and the person said they would send a female and talk to my husband. I had the assessment last week. She was lovely and very supportive. She used most of the things I had written and just asked my husband about shopping etc. . They marked it that I could not be seen alone and she was clear if it was to much she could stop. It was very positive. I would get a home based assessment with someone. You have more chance of explaining you situation . Hope this helps x
