ESA AND UNIVERSAL CREDIT was created by sojoli3008
Hi. I'm currently on ESA Support group but I have to apply for housing via Universal Credit rollout in my area. Will my ESA payment stop when I apply and be assessed again under UC?

If your ESA includes the Severe Disability Premium, it shows as "money because you are severely disabled" on the ESA letters, then you are currently barred from claiming UC so it would be a claim for Housing Benefit, if not then it is UC.

If you are receiving Income Related ESA in part or in whole then this will be converted to UC if you have to claim it, your existing award should be moved over but it is a manual process and may take several weeks to be done.

If you are receiving Contribution Based ESA then this will remain in payment if you claim UC but will be deducted from any UC you receive as it is treated as income.
