How many years medical records was created by kah22
My friend is applying for PIP. Is it a good idea to ask for your medical records before applying so that you have everything at hand when filling out the form?
How to apply for your records. Do you request them under FOI or just contact your GP ?
And finally how many years should you go back if it is a long term condition - 3, 5, 7,, 10 or all records.? I take it that the GP has a copy of all consultations with specialists ?

I can't tell you whether your friend should access their medical records or not. This is a personal choice, but I think it's safe to say that an awful lot of people don't. They work off what information they already have.
The most important thing when completing the form is to see what impact a person's medical condition has on their ability to fulfill the tasks set out in the PIP criteria. No one needs their medical records to know they have arthritis which is so bad they can't grip any utensils or cook a basic meal. What they might want to include a recent letter about the current state of their arthritis.
You can just contact your GP and ask for a copy of the records.
I can't tell you whether the doctor will have a record of all consultations - because that depends on the specialists they have seen.
Many people will say any information older than three years isn't useful. However, I have helped people and we've had no choice but to use older information and explained why - but the most recent is the best.
Only include stuff that is relevant to the PIP criteria.
