 	 				TRANSFER TO UC - COUNCIL TAX NOT BEEN PAID was created by DC
  			 				Hi, I have received a letter from my local council today, saying I have missed some council tax payments, this is because of the being migrated. Ive had nothing but problems. ESA have sent me a letter saying i will get a set amount per week, UC are deducting more.

Why do they not communicate? How can i find out who should pay my council Tax?? I really donot need letters saying i am in debt

  			 				Hi DC

It is an emerging issue that some Councils are getting extra Council Tax via the UC Managed Migration.
When the old Benefits claim is stopped then the Council get a notification of this from the DWP and they stop all the Council Tax Benefit ( or Council Tax Reduction Scheme ). This means a new full bill is automatically generated. Councils say that it is your responsibility to inform them that you are on UC even though they could find out if they took the time to check the IT system CIS Searchlight they share with the DWP.
Also a lot of people on disability Benefits are being told by Councils that for the first time in many years they are expected to pay a lot more from their Benefits towards Council Tax as they have changed their calculations.

  			 				ive had issues since the day i migrated to UC, I am also still getting ESA, which has now changed to contribution based???. I have an entitlement letter from ESA saying i am now on £138.20 per week = £276.40 paid every 2 weeks, but i have only been getting £126.95per week = £253.90 every 2 weeks. UC are deducting the high amount from my UC payments. I have investments & a small overpayment that used to get deducted from my ESA but now UC are taking deductions & also ESa seem to be doing the same. Ive spent 5 hours on the phone to ESA & UC wont reply to my journal. ive had enougfh, plese help

  			 				Hi DC

Are your investments over £6000 in value? Also do you have any money in current accounts etc?

  			 				How it’s worked out for UC with NSESA
276.40 fortnight NS ESA
138.20x52 = 7,186.40 per annum
7,186.40/12 = 598.867 Deduction from UC

using the same formula with your reduced payment - because of overpayment or capital above limits (mentioned above)of -£11.25 per fortnight
UC should be taking 550.11 deduction.
This may help clarify who you should be talking to regarding this if the figures differ.
