Contributary ESA and UC at same time was created by JDromey
Unknown to me the DWP put me onto contributory ESA when I responded to the managed migration letter by starting a UC claim I was in the Support group with severe disability premium
Now I am on both ESA and UC which I can stay on with UC paying my housing addition to the council who are my landlord. I have to go to job centre to verify my ID
I am so confused about what I do next, apparently I can stay on both benefits but I can find no information about my situation and what is the best thing to doc and I am terrified about leaving myself vulnerable to the whole reassessment phase which apparently I am up for in November 2026 and the DWP worker said my claim will carry on as I am in the support group
Does anyone have any experience of this situation and what I should do, I thought it was just a straightforward move to UC

Hi JDromey
The date of November 2026 is what is called your WCA prognosis when you should be re-examined. There is a 5 year back log of these for Support Group claimants so your WCA is unlikely to take place next year. But keep an eye on the News section of BenefitsandWork for the latest changes.
You will now be getting New Style ESA and UC. I don't think there is any reason to change this. Your NS ESA payments will be fortnightly and your UC montly.
