Hi, I’ve just received my migration letter from ESA to UC, and I’m also considering starting a part time job - it’s 17.5 hours per week, therefore outside the permitted work limits. Does anyone know if it’s possible to work these number of hours and still get enough UC to pay the rent? In essence I am not well enough to start full time work, but I’m beginning to feel I might be ready for part time work, but only if I will definitely receive extra income for rent and possibly other expenses of course. (The stress otherwise would make me too ill I fear). I guess if it was the old system my question would be can I work part time and still get housing benefit, but the reality is I’m soon to migrate to UC whether I like it or not. Thanks all.
The Permitted Work rules don't apply to UC. You can work as many hours as you want to and you should have a Work Allowance. You can preview your Benefits situation using a Benefits calculator... Entitledto.co.uk is one of them.
