Wanted to post how helpful this site and the guides have been in helping me navigate the PIP process. First time I have claimed any kind of benefit and was initially awarded standard rate for daily living only. After submitting a MR I was awarded enhanced for both which was unexpected. Thought I would end up going to tribunal. So glad I recorded the phone assessment there was so many inconsistencies with the call and the PA4 report requested. It was just a copy and paste exercise by the HCP, and at one point the report mentioned I was female. The report contained questions I wasn’t asked and answers I didn’t give. I highlighted every inconsistencies between the call and the report in my MR. I stated why I should have been awarded enhanced for both. Also send photos of my medication and aids I use. Don’t take no for an answer if you believe you should be awarded PIP for your conditions.

Hi Cautious

Many congratulations on your success. Less than 30% of claimants succeed at the Mandatory Reconsideration stage - so you did really well. I'm so glad you recorded the phone call - it is the best way to be able to counter their report. It's very difficult without the recording because it becomes 'claimant said, assessor said' and the DWP almost always sides with the assessor. So very well done.

Glad to hear that you also found the guides here useful.

Enjoy your victory and thanks for posting about your experience.

The link for the recording sent by the PIP assessor conveniently never worked. Asked for another link that didn’t work either. Luckily I recorded the call on my phone as well.

Hi Cautious

And that is exactly why we encourage people to make their own recordings, even if they have asked for one. Too often, the recordings are lost. Well done!

How do you record the call yourself?

Hi boris1,

I don't believe it is allowed, even though people still do it. Usually having the call on loudspaker and recording with another mobile phone or maybe a dictaphone type of device.

When I had my phone assessment, I was told that I must not record the call and had to tell them if I was, because they would cancel the call - however, I wasn't.

Chris.
