LCWRA as a pensioner was created by Worriedwife
So sorry if this has been covered before.
My husband reached pension age at the end of June this year.
He was on ESA and low rate care and high rate mobility.
I am not pension age yet so I was told we need to claim UC in my name.
Sadly my mum passed in early July and I couldn't face all the paperwork involved.
I completed all the stuff required late July and my work coach informed me Bereavement isn't an illness.
My Doctor changed it to stress related and then I was sent a UC50 to fill in.
Did that, returned it and was informed someone would be coming to assess me at home on October 10th.
Had a lovely lad from the local disability support group sit with me for hours and the assessor never turned up !
Informed my work coach the next day and still awaiting a reply.
Called the local council who we rent from and they say my husband will get LCWRA after three months.
Is this right as he is a pensioner ? Will it be back dated ?
Currently living off £1348 a month paying full rent and council tax which comes to nearly £700.
Once gas, electric, phone, insurances ,etc come off, there's not much left.
Am I missing something or just greedy.
Sorry for the long winded post.

Hi Worriedwife
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.
You are not greedy, you just need to check you are receiving all your benefit entitlements, unfortunately we do not have all the facts, so we can only make assumptions from what you have posted.
Was your husband in receipt of ESA and in the support group, if he was then you should get the LCWRA element straightaway and not have to go through the assessment period and you can claim the carer element for looking after your husband if you do at least 35hrs per week caring.
We would advise you to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
