Pip end date confusion was created by Chickadee
I’ve just requested my assessment report. They advised full mobility and daily living, which is great, but I’m a bit concerned they advised reassessment in 18 months as from my understanding this means you don’t get reviewed and instead have to reapply from scratch before it ends.
I’m also worried as my current live-in friend/carer is abusive, but I can’t leave if the award is for only this period of time and I can’t risk losing my carer or leaving for such a short period of cover (as I need to use the PIP to pay for alternate help).
Do the decision makers usually use the report as a basis for their decision?
My condition is from 2 permanent neurological injuries and also complicated by autism, but the assessor said both things may improve. They also said I was cheerful in the interview despite crying and actively describing suicidal ideation at the end.
Is it possible to ask them to reconsider the length of award or would it be better just to leave it and stay put? I don’t want to risk losing it or being reassessed as it’s seriously impacted my mental health to the extent I had to be referred into psychiatry a week later. I’m worried about whether I could cope with reapplying in 18 months time.

Hi Chickadee
Yes, the decision makers do use the assessors report as a basis for their decision but not always.
If you have not yet had a decision, there is a chance to get the awarded extended by writing to the decision maker, but you have to be quick. How long have you had your condition, what is the prognosis with your condition(s), if you have supporting evidence that your condition is ongoing then send it in with your letter
