Income related esa was created by CA
I have been on income related ESA A for some time now as I am completely unable to work. As it is income related I was okay as long as no savings over £15000 if I remember correctly. I get the extra payment with it due to being sick so it has continued as income related ESA. Am I to believe they are changing this?

Hi CA

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

If you are in receipt of IR ESA then you should have received a letter asking you to apply for UC.

You are correct, IR ESA is being phased out and claimants are being sent a letter asking them to apply for UC.

You need to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.

It is contribution based. Is this the same as IR?

Hi CA

At the start of your original post you stated you were in receipt of IR ESA.

Contribution based ESA is different from Income based ESA, you now say that you are in receipt of CB ESA in which case you would not have received a letter asking you to apply for UC.

As you are in receipt of CB ESA then any savings you have does not affect your CB ESA.

Hi Gary
I am so sorry. I get so mixed up. Yes I am contribution based ESA and in the support group which as far as I am aware is not changing and means it doesn't revert after 365 days to the other ESA. I completely panicked as this time, in with my letter was an advisory for any changes I had to make them aware of. These include savings and anything a partner may have. I am pretty sure now this has either been put in the envelope in error or to simply freak me out. I don't have much savings anyway but I also do not get any monetary support from anyone or anything else (barring the lower PIP) so without my ESA I would have nothing except a bit of PIP, and they are currently reviewing that. Your website and yourselves are so helpful. I am sorry I got mixed up.
Kind regards Christine
