soft touch review question was created by melady
I was awarded ongoing pip award high rate for both care and mobility in June 2016 so I am expecting to receive AR2 form soon. I now have terminal cancer and all chemo has failed.I am now on palliative care.. Would it be better to advise DWP now, to try to avoid the hassle of a review, or wait until the review form arrives{if I am still here.)

Hi melady

I am sorry to hear about your terminal cancer. What to do next depends on your energy. You already have the enhanced rate of care, so telling them wouldn't make any difference to your current award. Telling them won't necessarily stop them from sending you a review form. (This is the DWP we are talking about, and they frequently don't take on board what claimants tell them). So it's up to you. You could write to them now and send them the evidence, or leave it until you see what position you are in when the form arrives.

Best wishes

just to update everyone. The oncology dept sent the SR1 form to DWP to tell them about my current circumstances of now receiving palliative care for terminal breast cancer.I was worried about what would happen but it has all turned out well. DWP stopped my previous claim of high rate care/high rate mobility due for review soon(10 year ongoing claim awarded 2016).DWP then awarded me high rate care/high rate mobility ongoing with review date of after March 2036. This was without any input from me, so to say I was very pleased when I received the letter is an understatement. This has lifted a great weight off me and I can just try to enjoy whatever time I have left. I would just like to say a big thank you to Benefits & Work who have helped me enormously since I joined in 2010.

Hi melady

I'm so glad to hear that, as far as DWP is concerned, you don't have to worry about your PIP and it's now sorted. I hope that whatever time is left, you're able to enjoy some peace with your loved ones. You are in my thoughts. Do take care.
