UC work related activity groups was created by Invisible
Hi, I moved to UC from IR ESA with WRAG and was doing permitted work (still am).
So there are four groups for people who moved from ESA to UC:

----
No work-related requirements group

Work-focused interview group

Work preparation group

All work-related activity group

----
I am in the Work preparation group. The first group is for the ones who were in the Support group. The last one is for people who actively work. But who falls in the second one? Thanks.

Hi Invisible

Your second group the Work Focused Interview group includes:
 a nominated lead carer of a youngest child aged 1
 a single foster carer / main carer in a fostering couple where:
 a foster child under 16 is placed with them
 in exceptional circumstances - there is evidence that a foster child aged
16-17 has proven care needs that require full time care
 in exceptional circumstances - both members of a fostering couple may
fall into this group where there is evidence that a foster child has
proven care needs that require full time care by 2 adults
 the foster carer is between placements and shows evidence of intent to
continue fostering a child with proven care needs, as above, for a
period of up to 8 weeks
 a family and friend’s carer, also known as a kinship carer, for the first year
that a claimant is the responsible carer for a child under 16

I am having some problems making sense of what I was doing when I was on IR ESA with WRAG, and what I am being asked to do now. Previously I was working about 1 hour a day, including Saturdays and Sundays. Now it's going to be 16 hours of 'work related activities'. I have actually never done these before while being on IR ESA, so I have some questions....

since the work coach cannot ask me to find work or work more or earn more, can he 'interfere' with my self employment at all, or will he just relate the 'work related activities' to my self employment? For example, can actually - check - my self employment, for example to see if I am registered as a business on ebay instead of private (I am registered as a business because that's also against HMRC rules, etc). But can he actually 'expect' I do anything in relation to my self employment, and treat this as 'work related activity?

If I do 16 hours of actual work, will that count as work related activity?

Say I refuse to carry out some of most or even all the activities, if I just don't want to carry them out for whatever problem, would the housing element of my UC be ever affected, other than being sanctioned?

I'd really be poorer and be left in peace.....I have been to the Jobcentre before and hated every second and got into problems, it was always a battle of wills. My chronic fatigue syndrome prevents me from just wanting to get out of the house, which I never do. I am irritated by just having people around me. But most people don't understand this stuff, least of all the ones at the Jobcentre.

Another problem to me is the number of hours....there's quite a difference between 7 and 16. I really don't know what to expect, any info or links appreciated, also any books....I am willing to buy it if there's one specific to these things. I have read so far:

'Universal Credit, what you need to know' and 'Mental Health and Benefits' both by CPAG, and 'Help with Housing Costs'.....but found no information about the points I made above.

Currently reading 'Disability Rights Handbook' too.....am about one third in.

Obviously, I am trying to learn all I can about UC as to me it's a big unknown. I have been homeless before so the fear that it could happen is there.....my no. 1 prerogative is that I keep a roof over my head. I can deal with all else, sanctions, even no money or very little, etc.

I know this is a lot, and a lot of questions....I am not expecting an answer to them all; any info is appreciated. Thanks.

PS. of course, I continue to read the excellent guides on the site. I'll review all the highlights. The Benchbook seems also a must read.

Hi Invisible

If you are in the Work Preparation group and you start doing some work then your work related activities will be to try and increase your hours, that's all.
Did you say that you intend to work 16 hours per week?
