When does the 3 month relevant period for LCWRA payments start from?

Hi
I applied for UC in Nov 2025 and am currently in the process of doing my WCA50 form (I have significant health issues – CFS/ME and OCD and hope I should be found to be in the LCWRA category). I have recently learnt that the rates for LCWRA payments are being cut in half from 6th April and am wondering if I will qualify as being before this deadline or not.

I understand that you receive the higher current rate if your first payment was due to be paid before 6th April, and not if it is not due until after 6th April. I understand that once you have completed the assessment process and if you are found to be in the LCWRA category they backpay you to 3 months after you first “submit medical evidence”.

I am unclear from my research online as to whether this means 3 months from when I first signed up to UC and listed my health conditions on the application from and provided my first FIT note (2nd Nov 2025 – so hopefully would qualify for higher rate as 3 months from then is before 6th April) OR whether the 3 months starts from when I submit the WCA50 form (currently still trying to finish it – wouldn’t qualify for higher rate).

Does anyone know when the 3 month relevant period starts from? Most places online seem to say its from the first FIT note which I hope is true, but I am getting mixed information and can’t fully figure it out.

Thank you very much in advance for any knowledge on this.

Hi Melissa

The DWP will apply 3 full Assessment Periods from the date of the first submission of medical evidence prior to the first payment of the LCWRA element.
