Carer Element UC was created by Tigerlily11
Hi,
I have LCWRA on our joint UC claim. My husband was going to apply for the Carer’s Element on our UC claim. I get PIP and he also gets PIP. The thing that worries him is if PIP questioned why he needs PIP if he can get a Carer’s Element. He helps me with washing and dressing every day. He is not well himself so if this caused any hassle he would not go ahead and claim it.
Thank you for any advice with this.
Jessica

Hi Tigerlily11
The DWP will always question if a couple both get PIP and one of them wants to claim Carers Allowance or the carer's element of UC - can they either really fulfil the carers bit, or do they really need the PIP? There are people who have lost their carer's allowance or the carer's element of UC because of it. There are couples who have been able to show that it's possible to have two people on PIP, with one doing some caring duties for their partner, which does not negate their own need for support.
I can't tell you what to do here - all I can advise you is that they will ask questions should your husband apply.
