Daily Living - PIP - 0 points for Dressing & Undressing. was created by JJ
Hi I had a review of my current PIP entitlement in August 2025. This was an unplanned telephone review & not a full assessment. Following a substantial delay due to PIP not generating my decision letter, (I had chased up but was ,told to wait longer) I eventually asked for a mandatory reconsideration in January 2026 when I found out verbally by a supervisor(on my intervention) that my points for daily living were 6 (toilet needs, washing/bathing & preparing food). I was fortunately able to keep my enhanced mobility. I had explained in the review that I had been using a shoe aid for some time, due to severe ankle problems. (Pain, swelling, osteoarthritis in ankle) This was aiding me in the dressing process. I explained this further in the request for reconsideration. They already had an abundance of medical evidence from previous submission, so I could not really provide anything else, as I have been discharged from hospital consultation care due to irreparable, untreatable condition. They have upheld their decision (12th March 2026) for 0 points for this descriptor as they say 'whilst we acknowledge that your condition causes you some restrictions we agree with the total points awarded'. I am wondering if anyone can throw any light on this for me. ? I'm not sure if it is worth appealing, as I have not proven that I have trouble bending or problems with my hands. I imagine many people use a shoe-horn to overcome these other disabilities. I did explain that I need to sit down to dress & I know this does not carry points, but without the shoe aid I cannot get my foot into my boot. (I can only wear ankle boots due to severe damage). I am also wondering if they are penalising me as I am a carer for disabled husband.? Although I do not imagine that the 8 points I am trying to achieve could jeopardize the caring entitlement, as without myself having such aids then I am in no fit state to care, or to start my day effectively. I am also worried that if I appeal, then I may lose my mobility component. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi JJ
Thank you for your post, your query comes up quite often on the forum.
You are correct in that you may loose the enhanced mobility component if you appeal the decision, we would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
