New Style ESA and working more than 16 hours was created by NickTe69
Hello
I've tried to search for advice on the Forum, as I'm sure this is a common issue, but to no avail.
I've been receiving Contribution/ New Style ESA for 5 years. I'm keen to get back to work, and have started applying for part-time jobs.
Most of the jobs I'm applying for are 18/ 20 hours a week. All of the jobs I'm applying for do not pay anywhere near the ESA I currently receive.
So, I've started to do a bit of research, and the combined ESA/ UC route seems to be the suggested way forward. However, I'm wary of making an application for UC without understanding fully how this works. In particular, are there any pit falls/ criteria that I need to be aware of ?
For example, I will receive in the near future a small rental income from one property. I know this is acceptable under Contribution/ New Style ESA rules, but am concerned it could complicate any UC claim.
Any advice, including pointing me to helpful guides, would be great. Again, I couldn't see anything on the BAW ESA guide. Thank you

Hi NickTe69
Receiving rental income from just one property would be allowed with NS ESA.
UC is completely different. If you own a second property the circumstances of your ownership would be investigated and it is probable that if your equity was over £16k then your UC claim would be closed. If the equity was between £6k and £16k then you would receive tariff deductions.
