Replied by Adrian on topic PIP just got refused.
Hello,
Just received my assessment report (PA4) form.
Basically without going into detail it goes something like this:
Descriptor: = Can plan and make a journey alone unaided.
Justification for this result: = cannot use public transport, overwhelmed with autism, OCD prevents going out, always has to have wife with him, gets lost everywhere.
Oh and apparently a nurse can assess all of this.
Sorry to sound so negative but the way this form reads is just so stupidly insane.
Anyway, i need to ask a question.
How do i get any medical evidence from my GP?
I have an old letter from 2018 stating i will never work because of my conditions, but this seems to be all i can get because the doctors just will not write me any letters explaining my conditions anymore.
All they will give me is a brief history of medical conditions.
But because i don’t have any mental health people involved with me all the time its as if my conditions aren’t real to them.
I don’t know how to explain myself, but it seems like i have to be in and out of doctors and health units all the time to be believed.
I just don’t know!
Why do i have to keep proving myself and why are doctors so unhelpful?
Thanks for the rant

Hi Adrian
Most patients when they have a GP's appointment are rationed to 10 minutes and the GP is focusing on the diagnosis and relief through medication etc. But not how the health condition relates to the PIP descriptors. The GP does not see you at home or out and about. This is where testimony from friends, relatives and neighbours can be very valuable. So get whoever you can to write something down about your struggles and you can send this off to PIP as evidence.
Let us know how you get on.

I just wondered if this is normal?
I received my mandatory reconsideration acknowledgement letter today, and in it, it said i could send further evidence.
It mentioned a GP report.
So i contacted my GP only to be told that they only give a brief summary of my conditions and history, (which i have already sent off when i applied for PIP).
Otherwise the GP will do a letter or report but will charge me £50…
They said i have to write a letter to the doctor requesting this letter and my wife could bring this letter down to the surgery with £50 cash and it would take upto 28 days!
I used to get these letters just by asking!!!
Is it worth it?
Should i get a letter and pay £50 for it?
I can’t really spare this money so i don’t know what to do.
What do i request in my letter to the doctor? Any advice?
Thanks

Hi Adrian
I assume that you received a standard letter from the DWP. When claimants submit a request for a mandatory reconsideration, the DWP always informs people that they can send in further evidence. You wonder whether it is worth paying your GP. I can't answer that. Unfortunately, some GPs write letters for nothing, and some GPs charge.
You say that you have already sent a brief summary of your conditions and history, so what is your GP going to say for £50.00 that is any different from what you have already sent? You also want to be sure that your GP will not include anything that could harm your case.
What should you request in your letter? That's a hard one to answer. Your doctor can only write what they know about you. Think about your conditions and the impact that they have on you (that they are aware of), and ask for them to emphasise that. It always depends on how much you know and trust your doctor and how much they know you. When I've assisted people, I've written the letter we wanted from the GP and sent it to them as a template and luckily have always got back what we suggested. But you can only do this if you have a good relationship with the doctor.
I can't tell you whether or not it's worth it. Mandatory reconsiderations are not easy to win. Less than 30% are successful, so you could spend the money, and it may not make any difference. If you don't spend the money and you lose the MR, you will always wonder if you should have spent the money. Whatever you decide, you need to be happy with your choice and go with what feels right and what you can afford.
