Dressing and undressing - Answer when it takes more than twice as long

Hi. Thank you for the excellent guidelines. Unfortunately I keep getting confused about the most appropriate way to answer the dressing and undressing question.

I have ME/CFS and the specific guideline for ME gives one example for dressing and undressing as "You may be able to dress yourself without help but, because of fatigue, this might take you more than twice as long as it would take someone who does not have ME/CFS."

So given the available answers below, if it takes me more than twice as long as someone without a health condition on 90% of occasions to dress or undress (regardless of lower or upper), would the correct answer be 6f? It seems odd to say "Cannot dress or undress at all" without qualifying that you just can't do it at all in a reasonable timescale? Or would it be the "6e. needs assistance answer if assistance brings the timescale down to a reasonable time. In practice, even with assistance, it still takes more than twice as long as I am limited by how many items I can put on / how much I can move around before I need to take rest breaks that almost always exceed the time just spent active.

6a. Can dress and undress unaided
6b. Needs to use an aid or appliance to be able to dress or undress
6c. Needs either (needs prompting to...)
6d. Needs assistance to be able to dress or undress their lower body
6e. Needs assistance to be able to dress or undress their upper body
6f. Cannot dress or undress at all

In truth it probably takes me 2-3 times as long as a person without a health condition even with assistance.

Thanks in advance if you are able to help,

Steve.

Hi Steve

I would tick whatever feels right for you. If you can partially put on a piece of clothing, I would tick 6d and 6e - and explain what difficulties you have and why, including the fact that it takes you such a long time, in which case you are unable to complete this task to a suitable standard. You should also say if you need help (regardless of whether you currently get any). I wouldn't use 6f unless you literally cannot pull on any clothing at all.
