Supevision and Dla was created by Jennifer Gray
I am looking for advice on the supervision question for Dla. I believe I need supervision for the majority of the day due to my mental health condition. However I don't always have someone there for the majority of the day because I live alone does this matter. I have estimated that I am safe to be left alone for half an hour.

Hi Jenny

For any of your DLA information you do not have to be currently in receipt of any help or supervision - you just need to explain in as much detail your help and supervision needs:

An example might be:

e. I need someone to supervise me in unfamiliar places because of my depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. This is because I need help with:

i. Planning my journey and providing re-assurance;
ii. Encouragement to leave my home to go outdoors;
iii. Keeping calm when I am on the bus or tube;
iv. Being re-assured that I am not going to get lost;
v. I am not going to be late arriving for appointments;
vi. To help calm me down if I have a panic attack.

f. Other difficulties I face when I am walking outdoors are things like:

i. Unexpected need to use the toilet;
ii. Suffering a bout of diarrhoea and losing control of my bowels;
iii. Distracting thoughts that something bad will happen to my home when I am out;
iv. Pre-occupied that I have locked all my windows and doors properly before leaving my flat;
v. I feel I want to get away from unfamiliar places;
vi. I get anxious and feel panic if I am away from my home for too long;

I hope you find this useful

No problem, hope all goes well with your DLA claim. It is worth taking time to look at the detail of each activity / care need as often we adapt to make things easier for ourselves, but it is important to tell it as it it!

Good luck with it all
