The DWP say that the £10 Christmas bonus should normally be paid in the first full week in December, but we are now well into the second full week in December and we are still hearing from people who haven’t had theirs yet.

Have you had yours?  Let us know in the comments below.

How the Christmas bonus shows on your statement

The payment will normally show up as a single £10 payment with the reference ‘DWP XB’

It was originally introduced in 1972 and it was a payment of £10 way back then as well.

According to the Bank of England’s inflation calculator, if the Christmas bonus had kept pace with inflation it would now be worth £108.63.

Who is eligible

You must also get at least one of the following benefits in the ‘qualifying week’ - this is normally the first full week of December:

  • Adult Disability Payment
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Disability Payment
  • Constant Attendance Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (once the main phase of the benefit is entered after the first 13 weeks of claim)
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Incapacity Benefit at the long-term rate
  • Industrial Death Benefit (for widows or widowers)
  • Mobility Supplement
  • Pension Credit - the guarantee element
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
  • Severe Disablement Allowance (transitionally protected)
  • Unemployability Supplement or Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • War Disablement Pension at State Pension age
  • War Widow’s Pension
  • Widowed Mother’s Allowance
  • Widowed Parent’s Allowance
  • Widow’s Pension

What to do if you haven’t got your Christmas bonus

The DWP say you should contact the Jobcentre Plus office that deals with your benefits or the Pension service.  Unfortunately there does not seem to be an online form you can use to report non-payment.

Not received my Christmas bonus for two years and probably even before that as haven't got bank statements going back before 2021, will be ringing my back to ask how far back they can tell me that I haven't received Christmas bonus. Hope all people who are entitled to this bonus complaint to the authorities and ask why this has happened and where as our money gone! Thank you for this opportunity to voice our concerns on this matter.

Mine was missing too. I fell down the gap when I was swtched to ADP from PIP. A call to ADP and then PIP this morning has sorted it (apparently, though I will watch the bank just in case).  Worth getting in touch with them.  It's not a lot but it is the principle.

@Alison I didn't get mine and I am on ADP and ESA. No-one will agree who is meant to pay me it.

I have phoned ESA / and ADP / and PIP and went round in circles.

ESA say that as I am on ADP then it is SSS that are meant to pay it. But SSS say it is DWP. So I tried ESA again who transfered me to the PIP phone line, but PIP said that it is ESA that are meant to pay me it. So I phoned ESA again only for them to tell me no it isn't then. By which time all the phone calls are making my anxiety worse and I am crying over the phone at PIP and ESA.

I don't know if it has been sorted or not. As I have tried sorting it so it is a wait to see if I get a payment or not.

I’m on income based ESA and I’ve not had my usual Christmas bonus off DWP whereas years gone by I’ve had it paid in without any problems so they can’t say I’m not entitled to it as I’ve been on this benefit for years due to bad health which stops me from working and I am coming up to 62 yrs old

Not had mine. Ruined Christmas missing the £10! No but seriously its more about the point that they (dwp) use the fact that they give it. £10 in the early '70's was a bonus. Probably about a days pay on average. £80 bonus? Yeah more like it. Not massive but useful

I am on ESA and PIP I DID NOT RECIEVE THE £10 bonus  no idea why.  Mind you it still being £10 after 50 years is insulting, like many others suffering with the cost of living it would have have helped for many it would have paid for a large chicken and veg instead of sausage or burger its time they got it right many still have not recieved  theirs.

I still haven't received mine and I have received it from previous years. I've phoned the numbers that have been given online but none of them are suitable for people claiming PIP. I very much doubt I'll be paid it now given the estimated date it's 'supposed' to be paid.
