There are three separate date.

The date of the assessment.

The date of the Decision, this is normally the date of the Decision Letter.

The date the Decision applies from, this is normally the date of the Decision but can be earlier, for example where a Change of Circumstances needs to be taken into account.

For a transfer the only important date is the date of the Decision, this cannot be the same as the assessment date because at the time of the assessment the claimant is still on their original benefit, it could (in principle) be the next day, if the DM processed the file work that quickly, but as you are well aware, in your case this did not happen.

Hi MW,

The date of "The Decision" can differ from the date from which any prognosis can run, which can be some time earlier.

We have heard from members where the prognosis period starts from the date of the referral/re-referral to ATOS.

This date should have no bearing on the start of your ESA payments though.

That's helpful, Bro. Thanks. Even so, it can do no harm to get the matter clarified.

I’ve just noticed the breakdown of payments on my own Decision Letter. The weekly sum is 123.70 and is broken down as follows:

• £72.40 Living expenses
• £87.95 Extra money because of Disability Income Guarantee
• £35.75 Support Group component

This amounts to £196.10 !

What on earth?

I think I get it now:

£87.9 (instead of £72.40) = living expenses plus Disability Income Guarantee
£35.75 Support Group component
Total: £123.70

I’m not sure whether to blame my wits or theirs
