DLA to PIP notice to claim letter was created by Lady_in_bed
Sorry if this is a bit dumb of me but I received the letter for moving from DLA to PIP yesterday, I was expecting it but it is still a huge worry. It is dated 15th Dec and says I must apply by 12th Jan by phoning the 0800 number. I am just a bit confused whether this means to let them know I want to claim in the phone call by the12th Jan or if its for the whole form for PIP?
If it is just to acknowledge I want to claim will I get a further 4 weeks when I get the form from them?
And if I leave it to call them say on10th Jan rather than calling now would that give me a bit more time to prepare before I get the form or does the 8 weeks start ticking right from the date on this letter I have received yesterday the 15th Dec?
Isn't there an online application form for this yet and if not can you attach extra pages of info with the form. I don't have to fill the form in over the phone do I?

So you have until the 12th to make the claim you will then you will receive a further period to complete and return the PIP2 form.
The PIP Claim guide explains the claim process in detail and the criteria that you will need to meet in order to receive an award.

So if I leave it to make the phone call until nearer the 12th January I will have between now and then to pre prepare before the call and then once I receive the form will I still get the 4 weeks to fill in the form and return it?
I have problems understanding and taking things in so asked here. I had already downloaded the guide but couldn't find an answer to this. I just wanted to know if it benefits me more time to phone now or as late as possible.
The Christmas period makes it awkward too

Yes, the process is as you describe although the time for completing the form includes postage time so in reality you may actually have only three weeks, however, you can request a two week extension for the return date by contacting the PIP Helpline number which should be on the letter accompanying the form.
