I get PIP standard mobility and as such qualify for 50% car tax reduction. I don’t drive very much these days so rely on my husband a lot. The car is registered in his name & has been since we got it 8 yrs ago. I’ve been filling the car tax forms in today and it says on the Gov website that the car must only be used for my purposes and my husband shouldn’t use it for his own personal use. This sounds a bit bizarre as that implies that he would never be able to go out without me. How would I get around this?
The reduction is given in regard to your disabilities, so the car should only be used for your transport or for activities that benefit you, there is no clear definition of what the latter; your husband going out on his own to do the shopping should reasonably be included, however, his taking the car to work everyday may not.
