ESA - paper reviewed by health professionals? was created by Cornish Pasty
I've been in the ESA support group for years now and only ever had one face to face interview. Every so often I send away forms and it gets renewed. Does it get go through a paper based review by a health professional, like PIP?
The reason I would really like to know, I am appealing a PIP decision that was made on a paper based review (the health professional didn't read my doctors or carers letters).
I was wondering then if ESA was done by a health professional and I could request a copy of the Healthcare professionals report and use their statements as additional evidence for the appeal.
Many thanks for your time and help.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Fuzzy Wuzzy
Yes a report is still produced, it's called an ESA85A and you should be able to get a copy by contacting the DWP office dealing with your claim.
Be aware, although there are similarities between ESA and PIP, many of the activities are unique to the specific benefit and even where there is crossover, the criteria can still be different.
The bottom line is that if your use the ESA85A then also spend some time explaining it's relevance to your PIP claim.

Fuzzy, also to add to Gordon's great above advice as always.
Yes when you send ESA50 in it does go to then Atos now Maximus they then if they have enough evidence etc to do a Paper based assesment than rather an assesment.
I myself have only ever had one f2f for ESA SG and only PB for PIP as I've always supplied all the evidence I can muster as I never leave it to chance in them ever asking for it . Always get the report ESA85 if you had assesment or ESA85A if a Paper based assesment as Gordon has also advised above other pitfalls be aware.
