Hello Gordon.
I wonder if you can help me? I am really worried I have been on ESA for three years and in the support group. I had to fill another esa 50 in November 2017 I just had my assessment on Wednesday. 7th of February. I understand they give you more notice and usually send you a letter out to confirm this but the lady did ask me if this was alright I just got a phone call on Monday the 5th of February to say there was an appointment available on Wednesday the 7th of February . On Wednesday Morning a letter came through the post confirming that the appointment was booked at 3.45p that day.

I have been worried and anxious about the assessment for months now so i decided to take the appointment. I have mobility problems and balance problems I explained to the person who gave me the appointment that I would have to arrange a taxi or a lift with some help of a friend as I am extremely unsteady. This was to short notice for my sister the get time of work to take me.
After accepting the appointment I panicked an rang the assessment centre back to ask if this assessment was for esa as I am on DLA also . The person then said I must ring the assessment centre on Wednesday morning to check the appointment was still going ahead or not as this was late appointment.

I rang the the assessment at 10am on Wednesday morning to be told that they couldn't tell me at that time if i was to be seen that day as this was to soon in the day and I had to ring the centre back. I was told I would have ring again at 1pm to check the appointment would go ahead that day at 3.45pm. After ringing a second time at 1pm told that I would have to ring back at 3pm that day as they still didn't know I could be seen.

By this time I was very anxious wondering if I was going to go or not and I was really stressed. I have anxiety and depression and this was making me feel really ill

At 3pm I rang back I was very anxious as this only left 45 mins to get into the centre of town.
I was then told that I could come but there was no guarantee that I would be seen that day.

I then asked to speak with a manager .
I explained that i had been offered an appointment on Monday the 5th of Feb late in the afternoon, I took this as I just wanted to get it over with and I was anxious and frightend.
he said that he didn't think I could bee seen that day.
I explained that I has tried in total three time that day to try to get confirmation that the assessment would be taking place.
The Manager put me on hold and then came back to the phone and said I could attend the assessment but I would have to be prepared to wait. at least an hour to be seen. I agreed and got my friend to take me.

When I got to the assessment centre I was stressed and this affects my balance I did wait which I didn't mind I just wanted it over with and I was In a lot of pain so I had to take my medication.

When I finally got called in to seen the doctor it was 4.30 pm I had a lady doctor she apologised for the wait. the whole whole assessment lasted 2 hours I was very uncomfortable she showed no compassion or empathy it felt as though she was reading from a script and a bit like an interrogation. I felt it hadn't gone well I explained to the doctor what had happend with the appointments and i said i felt very degraded.

She said she hoped she hadn't made me feel like that I said she had not made me feel like that but it was a very long assessment.
she didnt seem bothered that i was uncomfortable and in pain . she said I could have to go for another assessment later. Im really worried would you know what assessment she could mean?? I couldnt go through all that AGAIN I realise I should have asked to have the appointment changed to another day but I just wanted to get it outf the way.
please can you help me understand what other assessment I may have to have.

Thank you

I'm so sorry that the this was such a trial for you. I can't think of any reason why there would be a second appointment, it is not how the system is intended to work. The assessor should have been able to go through all of your issues in an hour, let alone two.

Try and put it behind you, the important thing is that you were able to attend and it's now over.

You should receive a Decision in 2-4 weeks.

Hello Gordon,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. The doctor said it could be another medical I might have to go to. I'm really worried. If I get placed in the WRAG group I have been told they can ring you is this true Gordon?

thank you

If you are placed in the WRAG and this may not happen, then they may contact you but this will most likely be by letter. If you have asked not to be contacted by phone then this should be honoured.
