DLA now, what happens when I reach retirement? was created by Mm1
Hello, my first post here! (tried a few days ago but it hasn't appeared here...)
I'm on Indefinite low rate care DLA and will reach state retirement age in March 2019.
I've had to stop my self employed business because of a degenerative neurological condition and am now living off savings. I can't face signing on and I dread getting the letter for changeover to PIP because of all the terrible experiences people are being put through.
If I haven't been called for a PIP assessment before retirement age, will DLA stop? And if I do go on PIP before retirement, will that stop too?
I'm not sure what to do - my savings will run out soon and my condition is incurable and will get worse. So at some point soon I will need more care and mobility support - should I apply for PIP before I retire?
Thanks for your help and this wonderful site.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Mm
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
Neither DLA nor PIP stop at age 65 if the claimant has a current award.
So your DLA will remain in payment until you are invited to claim PIP, even if this is after you are 65.
Have you considered claiming either ESA or if you are able, Pension Credit? Try putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators.
