PIP face to face was created by cakelady
I have a 16 year old son who has Dyspraxia and is on the Autistic Spectrum. We have just received a letter saying that we have an face to face appointment in a little over a week. First thing I would like to ask is: can we ask for the appointment to be moved as we would need more time to plan for change with our son.

Secondly: is someone able to tell me what to expect at the interview. My son would probably talk the hind legs off the person who interviews long as the conversation was about anything medical, NCIs or Dr Who as these are his obsessions, but would the medical profession see that as he is able to communicate well?

Another worry is that if he is asked a question like do you have friends? he will automatically say yes even though he does not see anyone out of school, but in his head he has lots of friends because he says "hello" to people.

I am so worried about this face to face, my son had a DLA award until he was 21 but I am hearing so many bad reports that I fear this now be taken from him.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

You can move the appointment once, so make sure that the new date is convenient.

Our PIP Claim guide has sections that cover the assessment and the questions he is likely to be asked. See

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

Are you his appointee? If you are then you should be able to answer on his behalf, if you are not then all you can do is try and make the assessor aware that he does not have a proper understanding of these situations.
