I have just received a letter dated 17th April with an appointment for a PIP home assessment TODAY. Our post is always late, and I wasn't at home today. I don't understand why I have been given an appointment for a home assessment as I didn't request this. I am now panicking for 2 reasons: that I wasn't at home as I wasn't aware, but I wouldnt have answered the door as I would have been alone, and secondly will this count against me. I don't even know if anybody came as there was no notification through the door, nor any telephone messages.

You need to contact the Assessment Provider as soon as possible, whilst it is not your fault that you did not receive the letter, the APs have a strict policy of returning claimants files to the DWP if the claimant fails to attend and does not notify them that they are not available.
You will have to see what they say.
