Hi, I am in the support group for ESA and I have physical disabilities, I am wanting some advise please regarding working, well it is not working as such. I am wanting to become a parish councillor for our local village, it will mean I go to meetings every six weeks for 2 hours and discuss matters, also I will be a point for the villagers to discuss things, so the position is not physical and there is not much typing involved as I struggle with this as well. I have contacted DWP about this and they have sent me a form to fill in, but it is asking for employers name and address, I won't have an address because it is not a company and I am only a representative to the village, I am also not getting paid. I am needing to engage with people, I have been out of work for 8 years and during the day when hubby is at work I speak to no one and it is starting to effect me so I thought this might be a way of engaging with people more. Can somebody try to point me in the right direction or is this something I don't have to tell them, the form I was sent was PW1 4/17. Many thanks

Fill in the form, explaining the hours that you will be doing, that you are not being paid, I assume you will get some expenses.

Hi Gordon thanks for the reply, I wouldn’t be claiming expenses, I think you are able to but my view is all parish councils are eating into reserves and I would rather fund anything I do myself, eg I think I have to have a training course and I can claim back fuel, I would rather put my fuel in and the money is kept in our village.

Just another quick question can I start before they say ok or not?

Thanks
Angela

I do not believe your starting now would be a problem but the issue with PW is that is very much at the discretion of a Decision Maker, so if you can wait then I would.
