ESA Support Group to UC Online Form Fit Note was created by beabea101
I did do a search, but couldn't find this on the forum...
I am currently in the support group for ESA and have been for about 5 years. I am moving to a different area next week, one where they have full UC, so I have to move over to UC now. I am just filling out the UC claim form online and it is asking me for a fit note within 7 days. Is this right? It says if I don't provide one, they will assume I am fit for work.
I am wondering whether I am doing it wrongly? Should I apply to move my ESA over and then let the council decide I need to apply for UC? The form doesn't ask whether I am currently on any benefits, so it seems to be for a fresh claim. Very confused...

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
Please stop your application for UC until you understand whether a claim is required or not.
Are you claiming Housing Benefit? If you are then you will need to make a claim for UC in the new Local Authority in order to continue to receive HB.
If your ESA is Contribution Based only then it does not come under UC and you do not need to do anything with your ESA.
If you are receiving any Income Related ESA then it will be migrated to UC including your current award. There should be no requirement for you to be reassessed and you should not need to provide Fit Notes..
Do not make an online claim for UC, call the UC Helpline 0800 328 5644.
