Currently in receipt of ESA as a couple, PIP and Carers allowance. Due to the stress caused by DWP incompetency.... my partner has decided they want to leave. We have no children and I wonder will this mean I will have to transfer to the dreaded UC as a single person?

From a previous post you are the primary ESA claimant, this means that your claim will continue but as a single claimant, you will lose the Couples Allowance and the Carers Premium but the CA will no longer be deducted from your ESA.

You will not have to claim UC and this would be a change to an existing claim, not a new one.

Will your ex-partner continue to claim Carers Allowance for you? If they aren't and you are now living on your own then you should be able to claim the Severe Disability Premium, about £60/week, you will need to contact the DWP office dealing with your claim, you will need to complete an IS10 form about your living arrangements, you may be able to do this while on the phone.

Many thanks Gordon

Yes, I am the primary ESA claimant

Ex partner will no longer claim CA because they are starting work and in the short term, will remain living with me until they save the deposit for a new place. In the meantime, they will pay the rent and council tax, so won't have to claim for those

Soon to be ex wife did not leave and we continued to claim ESA as a couple until March 2019 when she started full time employment and we separated

At the same time, I was asked to attend a re-assessment interview but was unable due to stress and a deterioration of health, but did inform DWP. Apparently a new appointment was made which I was not informed of and when I did not attend, the claim for both ESA and HB were stopped immediately

I could not cope with it at the time due to my health and the separation, so she paid the rent on my home and covered the bills, but will not be doing that anymore. I have no idea what to do and would really appreciate any help/advice use can offer

You can make a claim for Universal Credit this should provide Housing Benefit and if you present a Fit Note you can be assessed for Limited Capability for Work, the criteria is the same as for ESA and will include an assessment.

Have made a new claim for UC, verified my ID online and requested a sick note from GP which I believe will be due on Thursday (after 7 days)

I am being harassed by my work coach to arrange "initial appointments". One of the conditions I suffer from is agoraphobia, so I can't attend the job centre for these initial appointments and the work coach is insisting they can't even start processing my claim until after the initial appointments which must be attended in person

This is obviously exasperating my condition and making me very anxious, but work coach refuses to help. Please advise
