I'm a carer - is that why my PIP appeal failed?

i've been receiving standard rate pip, with no mobility component since 2104 for myositis/arthritis.

i developed breast cancer. i went through chemo, surgery inc anxillary node clearance with resulted in me developing lymphodeama, and radiotherapy.

Pip sent an assessor in February 2018, to review my claim.

I explained i was worse now due to the cancer treatment and lympodeama issues. I'm right-handed and the lymphodeama's in my right arm. I wear a full sleeve with attached glove. This won't improve.

Basically however the assessor said she saw me lift a half-full, 5 litre bottle with both hands and drink from it. it was actually a 2 litre drinks bottle, which had an inch of water in it. She also said I fluidly got out of my chair and walked with a slightly altered gait.

My pip award was stopped. 0 points awarded. I did the MR - that was refused too.

I just had my appeal on 16th January. I get carer's allowance for my husband, He has enhanced pip. I suspect this is the reason my appeal was denied. The panel made such a big deal of me receiving carer's allowance to look after my husband - even though i explained that i only offer companionship and moral support, not physical. The judge's questions regarding who dresses my husband and who dresses me were relentless. In the end I said we help each other to dress, but it takes us about 15 minutes each. With effort.

They awarded me 2 points for not being able to cook a meal - due to lymphdeama and 2 for wearing hearing aids.

They also awarded me 4 points for not being able to walk more than 50 metres.

My question is can i relinquish my claim for carer's allowance? Will it help? I want to re apply for PIP, but i'm worried and reluctant due to the stress.

You can cancel the Carers Allowance at any time and make a new claim for PIP, your receiving it may have had an impact on your claim but it also sounds as if you did not explain your limitations in sufficient detail and you will need to think about this if you are to avoid being refused again.
