Just thought I would write and tell about my Brother-in-law, he had a PIP assessment in Cardiff at the Capital House in Greyfriars Road. He was awarded enhanced D L A 15 years ago as was told it was for life, but as stated in Benefits and Work he had to be reassessed for PIP. As parking is at a premium (There are disabled bays but as it is in the centre of Cardiff your chances of getting one is pretty slim) So I took him there along with his wife, there was no parking available and there were a number of works vans working in various buildings. I stopped along side one of the vans that was parked there and along with his wife I helped him out of the car, so he only walked a van and a pavements width into the building , they told me the small lift was immediately as you entered up to the 5th floor and a short walk along the corridor so no great distance. He has COPD , arthritis, gout, depression, anxiety and various other aliments.
They thought the medical went well and heard nothing for 8 weeks, they had taken him off enhanced and into standard rate meaning he lost his mobility car, he scored 10 points.
The reason he lost it was because the assessor said he had seen him walk twenty meters which was impossible due to the layout, when he came out of the medical they sat on a bench directly outside the building to wait for me, I should also add he uses crutches , it also said that as he drives a car he was capable of planning a journey even tho he had stated he only drives a two mile radius of where he lives to Doctors, local shop ,Hospital. He is unable to grip a knife or prepare food due to arthritis in his hands but the assessor said he did not believe this. My Brother-in -Law decided not to appeal as he feared that he could lose the appeal and get nothing despite me pointing out to him that we should appeal.
