Using PIP HCP report as evidence in ESA? was created by Swiffit30
We've had a positive report back from our PIP assessment, stating that mobility is assessed at 20-50m. We are just waiting for the final DM letter but from what I understand they should follow HCP report recommendation?
Our ESA50 is due back in 3 weeks, probably before PIP award comes through. Can we send the report as evidence of limited mobility or does it not carry the weight of the final decision? We have other medical evidence to submit but I thought as the recent assessment was 'dwp' backed it might carry more weight?
Thanks for any help/advice given

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

The PIP report should be fine but be aware, ESA is not a walking test, it is a Mobility test! In addition to your walking, it considers your ability to self-propel a manual wheelchair over the same distances, you do not need to be using a wheelchair or even to own one for it to be considered. SO even if you can show your walking is restricted unless you can also show that you cannot self-propel the wheelchair you will still not score points.

Thanks Gordon,
The mobility is restricted due to a lung condition and
resulting breathlessness, so the exertion of using a self-propelled wheelchair would actually lead to an even more limited mobility! We will make sure to be detailed in the form explaining this. When we do use a wheelchair we use a 'transit' model that can only be pushed (has only smaller wheels)
Thanks for your help and this site. The members guides have been really clear in how to be specific in filling out the endless forms. They've definately helped us to (hopefully!) get the right PIP award first time, so fingers crossed the same will be true for ESA (although I know ESA can be trickier
