Evidence ignored for PIP review home visit was created by Asbo
Hi
Just thought I'd outline my recent experience as I'm sure it's not just happened to me and is something that Atos (or whatever they are now) are routinely doing now .Two years ago I had a home visit for my PIP with supporting evidence from my GP. When my PIP review came my GP wrote another detailed supportive letter in fact asking for a paper based assessment. Months later I just got a letter calling me in for assessment. I phoned them up and said I couldn't go and had given GP evidence. The person on the phone said she needed to speak to Health Professional who would write to me. Another letter arrived asking me that I still have to attend. By this time my MH and anxiety had gone through the roof. A friend and welfare rights adviser phoned up Atos. He got the name of the HP and also discovered they phoned my surgery to see if I'd been there. (This sort of ties in with the report in your newsletter about data sharing and shows they are already doing it). In fact, I'd actually had a huge meltdown in my surgery the day before because I got very anxious having to wait but it is my view that the HP just spoke to the receptionists with a closed question to see if I'd attended. In fact, my GP was off so they'd not spoken to her and she would have fought my corner. But with this date sharing Atos (and the other assessors) can argue you are giving consent when you fill out the form because they say they may need to contact your GP, primary health care worker etc. You can hardly say 'no' otherwise you risk loss of benefits. Now another member of my family says she is scared to go to doctor's because of this revelation. It is outrageous and it put my health at risk. Even the GP surgery, where I know the place and people, where I can cancel or choose to have a phone or online consultation, where the doctors are there to help you and not strip you of your benefits is nerve-racking enough. I managed to get My MP to intervene and get me a home visit which I am still dreading (and Atos yet to confirm in writing). But It is our absolute right under the Equality Act to have a reasonable adjustment because Atos are contracted by the DWP who are bound by the Equality Act

Juts to update you on this, my GP surgery said there is no way they would have shared this information so the Health Professional just assumed it as I had evidence from my doctor. And yet if you don't have evidence they've got you over a barrel too
