Hi.
I am hoping I might receive a definitive answer to something that has been bothering me for a while? I am on enhanced rates of PIP and I am down as still being self employed at 10 hours a week. My Wife works 24 hours a week on minimum wage. I also receive the lower rate of Industrial Injuries benefit. We pay full rent and council tax, and I have applied for a discount to our council tax as I need (and have proof), that my disabilities mean I have to sleep in a room of my own. I have applied on numerous occasions for a reduction, but I have always been refused. They tell me that because we pay full rent and have a certain amount coming in, I do not qualify. We do also receive working tax credits. However, I was of the thought that a reduction in bedroom tax was applicable for a condition or illness, and not means tested as such. I cannot seem to get clarification on this. We were given it for a short while, but they told us that was some kind of scheme they were running at the time, and it was up to the decision makers of the scheme who could receive the assistance. It baffles me, and it would be great if I could have some final clarification of it all. Thanking You.

I am really sorry but this is not an area of benefits that we advise on, try getting local advice, for example; the CAB.

Hi, I applied for a reduction to the bedroom tax as both my husband and I have to sleep in separate rooms due too my husband feeling the cold and I have to constantly have the window open. I was very surprised and also delighted that I got a letter back telling me that my bedroom tax would be reduced. If you Google about certain circumstances for a reduction to the bedroom tax it should give you the advice that you need to put in your letter. I hope this was of some help. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
