I live in a council house have guardianship of my grandchildren my sister has been made homeless no fault of her own I would like her to live with us as I know she will be cared for but I was wondering if anyone might know the implications to my benefits. I am on full housing and council tax benefit High rate PIP for both care and mobility ESA and child tax credit. My sister is awaiting PIP outcome and will receive her work pension as she is suffering very ill health so will not be entitled to benefits. I am trying to work out what effect this will have on my benefits and if it would be better to look for extra care sheltered accommodation which the social worker has suggested. any advice would be welcome. Thank you

Your situation is too complicated for me to answer your question, get face to face advice as there are a number of issues. Do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.

If you receive the Severe Disability Premium with your ESA then your sister living with you will mean that it can no longer be paid unless she receives a PIP Daily Living award.

You say that she will not be entitled to benefits as she is ill, if she has been working for at least the last two years then she may be able to claim New Style ESA and if not she may be able to claim Universal Credit, both subject to her pension.
