Hi
This may seem incredibly grateful but it’s a genuine query.
Like others the idea of medical fills me with horror and as the date approaches I just go into a spiral of anxiety and depression.
I’ve just had my pip renewal through and while I’ve got the same awards the length of time that the award is for is much shorter.
My first award was for 5.5 years, I’ve just had my letter today and it’s awarded me from May 2019 to October 2021.
The idea of having to go through all this in 2 years fills me with terror. As well as my physical mobility issues my mental health since becoming disabled and due to various life events has deteriorated with severe depression and crippling anxiety.
The question is, do I ask for a mandatory reconsideration and risk loosing my award or just sit it out and go through the same hideous anxiety and terror that I suffered for the previous 6 months when I knew my award was due?

I can't offer advice on whether you should challenge the length of the award or not only you can make this decision.
The award length is part of the Decision so can be appealed, it is supposed to be a reflection of the likelihood of your needs changing, this could be for the worse as well as the better.
We have not seen huge success with members challenging the award length and you may need to go onto appeal to get it extended and with waiting times for a hearing being as long as a year in many areas, a reassessment may have been started before your case is heard.

I got my award changed from 1 year to 5 years at MR - I would say if you are confident in the points you got awarded for DC and M then yes challenge it.

Thanks for your reply.
I stupidly left out the actual reason I am upset. In the decision it states as follows:
“I looked at the information you provided and the health professional consultation report and changed the descriptors previously chosen based on the medical evidence received. I decided to award you PIP for a longer time”
It is the last sentence that has upset and confused me, if my previous award was for 5.5 years then instead of awarding it for a longer time they have halved it.
It’s that reason I’m wondering if I should ask them to reconsider

I would not read anything into the comment, Decision Letters are produced by the DM copy/pasting standard phrases into the letter, they obviously weren't paying any attention to what they were doing.
