PIP assessment query was created by N
Hi My wife recently underwent an assessment from DLA to PIP the assessor stated to my wife that she could move 10 metres with an appliance ( however she only observed my wife walking 4 metres from the toilet with my assistance) to us however in her report to the decision maker she has stated that my wife can move more than 20 metres and has therefore only awarded her 10 points instead of 12. I have asked for a mandatory reconsideration> how would she stand with this.

Hi N

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

If you have not already submitted the paperwork for your MR do read our guide which has advice on how to challenge the decision.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

Focus on the points where you believe your wife was scored incorrectly. Come back and ask any questions you may have.

Many thanks for your comments which I will take on board, I have read the very informative information provided which is of great assistance. What is concerning me is how can I prove that the HP did not ask my wife to walk any distance whatsoever and only observed her walking from the toilet to the living room less than 4mts assisted by me. There are many other incorrect comments in the report also. should I precise those to show how inaccurate the HP report is. Thanks again

Hi N

I do know of one member who had a similar experience at an assessment centre and they went back and measured the distance and sent photographs. You may want to do the same in your own home.
